I’m
always doing some renovation on my beach house. It is a three-story house. On
the first floor (ground floor) I have a large living room, the dining room, a half-bath,
the kitchen and a multifunctional area that serves as pantry, laundry and
storage. On the second floor are two bedrooms, the suíte, bathroom and a TV
room. On the third floor I have the barbecue and a large leisure space.

Eu
sempre estou fazendo alguma renovação em minha casa de praia. Minha casa tem 3
pisos, sendo que no primeiro piso (térreo) eu tenho uma ampla sala, a sala de
jantar, um banheiro, a cozinha e uma área multifuncional que serve como
lavanderia, despensa e depósito. No segundo piso ficam 2 quartos, a suíte,
banheiro, e a sala de tv. No terceiro piso eu tenho a churrasqueira e um amplo
espaço de lazer.
In
this multifunctional area, the storage space was in chaos. The main problem
there was a set of shelves that although relatively organized, did not meet my
needs and, worse, they were old and ugly. In these shelves, everything was
crammed together.
O
espaço para depósito estava um verdadeiro caos. Meu principal problema ali era
um conjunto de prateleiras que, apesar de estarem relativamente organizadas,
não atendiam minhas necessidades e, o pior, estavam velhas e feias. Nelas tudo
estava amontoado.
On
the other hand, everything I couldn’t store in the ground floor storage I would
take to the third floor and throw it in a corner. So, the third floor quickly
became a storehouse for everything from leftover building materials, paints,
tools, hardware to sufboards. A real chaos!!!
Por
outro lado, tudo o que eu não conseguia armazenas naquela despensa, eu levava
para o terceiro piso e lá jogava num canto. Assim, rapidamente, o terceiro piso
se transformou num depósito de tudo, desde sobras de material de construção,
tintas, ferramentas, ferragens até prancha de surf. Um verdadeiro caos!!!!
I
spent almost every day of july in my beach house. So, I decided to renew
everything and make changes to both places. The first thing I did was get rid
of everything that no longer served me, things that were already old, expired
cans of paint and everything else. Total detachment!!!
Assim,
quando lá fiquei neste último mês de julho, resolvi renovar tudo e fazer
alterações em ambos os locais. A primeira coisa que fiz foi me desfazer de tudo
que não mais me servia, coisas que já estavam velhas, tintas com data de
validade vencida e tudo o mais.......Desapego total!!!!
That
cleaning help me to free up the available storage space. So, I began preparing
the wall for painting. Initially, I sanded the entire wall, rubbed it, sanded
it once again and finally, I applied two coats of PRIMER. A Primer is a
preliminar coating applied before painting. It ensures better adhesion of paint
to the surface, increases paint durability, and provides additional protection.
Essa
limpeza me ajudou a liberar todo o espaço disponível para armazenamento. Assim,
iniciei lixando toda a parede, apliquei massa corrida, lixei a parede novamente
e, finalmente, apliquei duas demãos de PRIMER. O Primer é uma cobertura
aplicada antes da pintura propriamente dita. Ele assegura uma melhor adesão da
tinta sobre a superfície, aumenta a durabilidade da tinta e, fornece uma
proteção a mais.
Choosing
wall colors can be a time-consuming and frustrating task for homeowners – and
that doesn’t even include the paintig part. However, after a few minutes I
decided to paint the wall in gray. I believe it is the most suitable color for
a storage area. The result was great!!!
A
escolha de cores de parede pode ser uma tarefa demorada e frustrante para os
proprietários – e isso nem inclui a parte de pintura. Entretanto, em pouco
minutos eu me decidi em pintar a parede de cinza. Acredito que seja a cor mais
adequada para uma área de depósito. Achei o resultado excelente!!!
After
painting the walls, I proceeded to the next step: In this step, I removed all
the material that was stored on the shelves of the first floor warehouse. That
done, I removed the boards, which to my surprise were in good condition and
could be perfectly reused. Similarly, the shelves brackets were in excelent
condition and could also be reused.
Terminada
a pintura das paredes, passei para a etapa seguinte: Nessa etapa eu removi todo
o material que estava armazenado nas prateleiras do depósito do primeiro piso.
Feito isso, removi as tábuas, que para minha surpresa estavam em bom estado e
poderiam ser perfeitamente reutilizadas. Da mesma forma, as mãos-francesas
estavam em excelentes condições e poderiam ser reaproveitadas.
Worst
of all, was the amount of holes and gaps in the wall of the first floor
warehouse. To fill them I used spackle paste for interior use. In a short time
the wall was retored. However, its complete restoration will be for another
time.
O
pior de tudo, foi a quantidade de furos e buracos que ficaram na parede. Com
massa apropriada, tapei os furos e restaurei a parede. Todavia, sua completa
restauração vai ficar para uma outra ocasião.
Due
to the other renovations I had already done in my beach house, I had leftovers
of refractory bricks, roof tiles, wall tiles, porcelain floor tiles and slate
tiles. Since this is a bulky and heavy goods I decided to use the old boards to
make low shelves (at floor level) to better store them. Due to the action of
the sea breeze (salinity tolerance) prevalent in coastal regions, I had to wash
and dry all the ceramics before storing them.
Devido
à outras reformas que já havia feito na casa, eu tinha sobras de tijolos
refratários, telhas, piso em porcelanato, revestimento cerâmico de parede e
lajotas de ardósia. Como esse é um material volumoso e pesado, resolvi usar as
tábuas velhas para fazer prateleiras baixas (ao nível do piso) para melhor
acondicionar esse material. Devido a maresia que prevalece em regiões costeiras,
tive de lavar e secar todas as cerâmicas antes de guardá-las.
The
next step was to recover all the shelves brackets. To do this, I used a metal
brush to remove rust and wiped it down. Once the rust was removed, I coat the
metal with zinc-cromade primer before using a full-bodied primer. Finally, I
painted them in black.
A
próxima etapa foi a recuperação de todas as mãos-francesas. Para tanto, eu as
escovei com uma escova de aço para remover a sujeira e possível ferrugem e
apliquei um removedor de ferrugem. Limpei toda a peça. Em seguida, apliquei zarcão
e, posteriormente um primer para metal. Finalmente, eu as pintei de preto.
As
the old boards weren’t long enough, I bought 3 new boards measuring 74,8 x 11,8
inches (190 x 30 cm). Both, old and new boards have been carefully sanded. Then
I applied an appropriate product to prevent carpenter ants and termites. Hours
late, I applied Wood Stain to the boards. They were beautiful!!
Como
as tábuas velhas não eram longas, eu comprei 3 tábuas em madeira cambará com
190 x 30 cm. Tanto as tábuas antigas como as novas, foram lixadas
cuidadosamente. Em seguida, dei a elas um tratamento contra cupins de formigas
carpideiras. Horas mais tarde, apliquei Stain nas tábuas. Elas ficaram
lindas!!!
While
working on my own, I was able to install the shelves brackets and set up the
shelves.
Embora
trabalhando sozinho, consegui instalar as mãos-francesas e montar as prateleiras.
I
also had a lot of electrical stuff, plumbing stuff and leftover paint. So, I
stored all this material in properly labeled plastic boxes. The next step was
to pack and store all the material on the shelves. It was a hard work but
enjoyable and fun. Great work!!!
Eu
também tinha uma grande quantidade de material elétrico, de hidráulica e sobras
de tinta. Assim, eu armazenei todo esse material em caixas plásticas
devidamente identificadas. O trabalho seguinte foi acondicionar e armazenar
todo o material nas prateleiras. Foi um trabalho árduo, mas extremamente
prazeroso e divertido. Achei o resultado excelente.
