As
you already know, I live in the city of Curitiba, capital of the state of
Paraná and located in southern Brazil (here).
In a short trip and just over 100 Km (62 miles) from Curitiba, we find the
coast of Paraná. There, in a lovely beach resort (Balneário
Solymar) of the city of Matinhos (here),

In
a previous posts, I showed several steps of the renovation process of my beach
house including the new garden and landscaping of the house (here). To maintain financial control, all
renovation work has been carried out gradually, step by step.
In
mid-2016 I did the landscaping of the house and, on that time, I chose to plant
in the small flower-bed located on the left front of the house the popular
Snake Plant (it was beautiful).
However,
when I came to the Christmas (2018) and New Year’s parties (2018/2019) I noticed
that this little bed needs a new modification. During this time, I followed the
development of the plant but now the little bed was totally taken by the Snake
Plant. In addition, the grass planted by the sidewalk was able to pass beneath
the concrete beam and intersperse through the roots of the Snake Plant making
their cleaning and maintenance enormously difficult.
Definitely,
that small bed of my garden needed to be renovated. So, I decided to remove the
Snake Plant. I cleaned the area thoroughly and made the removal and containment
of the grass. To avoid future problems I bought a medium-sized vase and removed
its base. Then I made a grave and adapted the vase to it. This will protect the
roots of the new plant. My choice now was to plant a Candelabra Cactus (Euphorbia ingens) in the vase.
Finally,
I protected the whole area with drainage blanket (bidim) and covered it with
pebbles and White stones.
Do

RENOVANDO O CANTEIRO DE ESPADA DE SÃO JORGE DO JARDIM DA
CASA DA PRAIA.
Em postagens
anteriores, mostrei várias etapas do processo de renovação da minha casa de
praia inclusive, o novo jardim e paisagismo da casa (aqui).
Para manter o controle financeiro, todo o trabalho de renovação tem sido
realizado de forma paulatina, etapa por etapa.
Em meados de 2016 eu
fiz o paisagismo da casa e, naquela ocasião, optei por plantar no pequeno
canteiro localizado na parte da frontal esquerda da casa, a popular Espada de
São Jorge (ficou lindo).
Entretanto, quando vim
para as festas de Natal (2018) e Ano Novo (2018/2019) observei que esse pequeno
canteiro precisando de uma nova modificação. Durante esse tempo, acompanhei o
desenvolvimento da planta mas agora, o pequeno canteiro estava totalmente tomado
pela Espada de São Jorge. Além disso, a grama plantada junto à calçada
conseguiu passar por baixo da viga de concreto e entremear-se pelas raízes das
espadas, dificultando enormemente sua limpeza e manutenção.
Definitivamente, aquele
pequeno canteiro do meu jardim precisava ser renovado. Assim, decidi pela total
remoção das Espadas de São Jorge. Limpei profundamente a área e fiz a remoção e
contenção da grama. Para evitar problemas futuros, comprei um vaso de tamanho
médio, e removi sua base. Em seguida, fiz uma cova e adaptei o vaso a ela.
Minha opção agora foi plantar nesse vaso um Cacto-Candelabro (Euphorbia ingens).
Finalmente, cobri toda
a terra com manta de drenagem (bidim) e fiz a cobertura do pedras de rio
(seixos) e pedras brancas.
